One wit described his rise to project manager: "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time." For many, this is an apt description of how they ended up in their role. The scarcity of PM talent in engineering firms often leads anyone showing even the slightest aptitude into the ranks of these leaders.

Few would dispute that the best technicians often make the poorest project managers. But then ... who is right for the job?

Join Howard Birnberg to explore the skills and characteristics essential to any successful project manager. From experience and leadership ability to writing and speaking skills, you'll learn what to look for in yourself and staff so that you can encourage budding talent as well as improve project delivery.

TAKEAWAYS:

  • Understand the skills a project manager needs to develop, including communication, leadership, organization, and broad experience
  • Identify the most important characteristics of successful project managers
  • Understanding how the basic role of project managers need to be incorporated into your A/E firm
