The CASE Programs and Communications Committee has been very busy developing meaningful risk management convocations for various venues. Shown below are summaries of this year’s convocations and a look at some additional upcoming events CASE is putting on for its members:

Convocations

Austin, TX – May 2009
    CASE presented its second Spring Convocation in conjunction with the Structural Engineering Institute’s 2009 Structures Congress, April 30- May 2, 2009 in Austin, Texas. Friday May 1 a full day of CASE sessions took place, kicking off with the breakfast complete with speakers talking about the structural risks associates with 9/11. Other topics included: Ten Most Common Areas of Design Professional Exposure; Quality Control and Quality Assurance Practices in Structural Engineering; Managing Project Scope, Schedule and Budget; Staying Ahead of the Curve: Best Practices for Applying BIM into the Structural Engineering Firm.
Palm Springs, CA – October 2009
    The CASE Fall Convocation will roll into Palm Springs CA in conjunction with the October 7-10, 2009 ACEC Fall Conference. The CASE Programs and Communications Committee has been working on a great lineup of speakers and presentations. Some of the sessions will include: Risks Associates with Design Build, Getting Your Project Off on the Right Foot and Finishing It Right, How to Stop Engineers from Eating Their Young.

Other CASE Events:

Chicago – August 2009
    The CASE Summer Meeting & Workshop will start Wednesday afternoon, August 19, 2009, and run through Friday, August 21, at the hotel shown below. On Wednesday afternoon, August 19, there will be a special CASE Workshop, How Structural Engineers Can Profit By Speaking LEED. This will be followed by a dinner roundtable. CASE members will receive a special discounted registration fee of $150 for the workshop only and $230 for the workshop and dinner. This fee applies to CASE committee members who choose to attend, including ACEC/Illinois members. Thursday will involve program overviews, discussion of future direction, and committee breakout meetings with Friday reserved for the CASE Executive Committee’s meeting.
