The unique Green Infrastructure and Sustainable Communities course systematically lays out the complex interdisciplinary challenges of real-world sustainability problems. The curriculum demonstrates key environmental planning and design processes, and showcases actual applications of holistic engineering by some of the leading practitioners in the United States. This certificate course is presented jointly by ACEC, Colorado State University and University of Florida.

By participating in this new certificate program, you will:

  • See the opportunities in sustainable development and its global relevance.
  • Assess major challenges facing business and government relevant to sustainable facilities and infrastructure.
  • Become familiar with national and international metrics for sustainability.
  • Learn about new tools being used for conducting sustainability audits.
  • Understand and apply life cycle thinking and analysis to projects and programs.
  • Explore how to inaugurate or expand a business practice in sustainable engineering and planning.
  • Consider whether examples of sustainable design in transportation and water projects were fully successful.
  • Gain insights about the tension between sustainability and growth, and the interplay between individual projects and community/region health and safety.
  • Evaluate, with participants and expert faculty, the future of holistic engineering and sustainable practice.
