Hot-Selling ACEC Sustainable Development Guide To Be Distributed In China
ACEC's best-selling publicationBecoming Part of the Solution: The Engineer's Guide to Sustainable Developmentwill soon be available to engineering industry professionals in China.
The China Architecture and Building Press has just signed an agreement with ACEC to publish a Chinese-language edition of Becoming Part of the Solution, written by Bill Wallace.
Based in Beijing, the Chinese book dealer is the largest and most authoritative publisher in China's design and construction industry, publishing about 2,200 books a year.
Coincidentally, sustainable development is the focus of this year's FIDIC Conference which begins next month in Beijing.
Since its release by ACEC in February 2005, Becoming Part of the Solution has remained one of ACEC's hottest selling titles. Wallace's book is the only "how to" manual on sustainable development engineering.
The book includes hundreds of references and a CD linking the reader to key documents, organizations and software.

Congressional Action On Pension Reform Expected In The Fall; ACEC Watching Closely
 Rep. Bill Thomas (R-CA) |
Comprehensive pension reform legislation is expected to be considered in the House and Senate when Congress returns from the August recess.
Already, two Congressional committees have approved pension legislation, with a thirdthe Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committeeexpected to act in early September.
ACEC is monitoring committee action closely. Key issues for ACEC member firms include the development of interest rate rules for benefit plans that will simplify how employers measure their pension obligations. The new rules also will give employers more predictability and certainty about their future pension costs.
Congress is also expected to consider guidelines governing 401(k) plans, including mandatory benefit statements and procedures for the diversification of company stock.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) plans on incorporating the House Education and the Workforce's Pension Protection Act (H.R. 2830) into a broad retirement security package, which could also encompass Social Security reforms, 401(k) provisions, and tax provisions. |
