As several ACEC member firms in the Gulf Coast region continue to struggle with uncertainty and loss of business as a result of Hurricane Katrina, member firms from throughout the nation are answering the call to help.
ACEC is offering free postings on its new A/E Job Openings Board web page for those firms who are in position to offer temporary employment to engineering firm employees who are out of work because of Katrina.
Access to the Job Boardoperated by Boxwood Technology, which along with ACEC has dispensed with its service feecan be found by clicking here, and selecting the "temp-to-perm" option in the search.
ACEC member firms also are volunteering temporary work site assistance until those affected firms are able to resume business operations. Such assistance includes office and meeting space; access to computers, printers, plotters, networks; and temporary employment for affected staff.
A list of companies offering assistance is available on the ACEC website by clicking here.
"I have been absolutely overwhelmed with the outpouring of generosity demonstrated by our member firms," said Tom Burke, ACEC Executive Committee liaison for the Gulf Coast states. "More than 100 firms already have made offers of office space, facilities to set up companies, and temporary employment.
ACEC/Louisiana Executive Director Warren Wilder said he was "heart-warmed" by the response.
"I've heard from a ton of good people seeking to help, offering jobs and office space," Wilder said. "This really restores faith in the human spirit for me."
