ACEC/Tennessee Second To Hit 2008 ACEC/PAC Goal

ACEC/PAC Champion of Tennessee Jerry Stump
ACEC/Tennessee became the second state in the nation to meet its ACEC/PAC fundraising goal for 2008.

The Volunteer State hit their goal for the fifth straight year.

"Our plan this year was simple—increase the number of ACEC/PAC participants while simultaneously increasing the size of the average PAC contribution," said ACEC/PAC Champion Jerry Stump of Wilbur Smith Associates in Franklin, Tennessee. "We knew if we could educate our members about ACEC's recent legislative wins and the implications of the kind of federal issues that are now before Congress, our membership would respond—and they did."

Stump also credited the support of ACEC/Tennessee Executive Director Candy Toler for helping to promote involvement in ACEC/PAC.

For more information on ACEC/PAC, contact either Greg Knopp, ACEC executive director of political affairs at gknopp@acec.org or Elizabeth Coit, ACEC/PAC director at ecoit@acec.org.

2008 QBS Grant Program Launched; QBS Award Nominations Now Accepted

Lester Fukuda: "Grant program excellent funding source for grassroots materials."
ACEC is launching its Qualifications-Based Selection (QBS) Grant Program for 2008.

Each Member Organization received applications by email on March 19, which are due back to ACEC May 30.

The grant program is designed to assist states in creating programs and materials to familiarize public owners with the advantages of QBS. More than $400,000 has been disbursed to the states through the program since its inception in 1989.

ACEC is joined this year by the American Public Works Association (APWA), American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), in establishing a grant pool of $25,000.

On a related front, ACEC's QBS Awards Program is currently accepting nominations from Member Organizations. The QBS Awards Program recognizes public and private organizations that make exemplary use of the QBS selection process at the state and local levels. Nominations for this year's awards should be submitted by April 30.

"With the expansion of QBS at the local level becoming a focus for many states, the grant program continues to provide an excellent funding resource for the development of educational and grassroots materials," said Lester Fukuda of HDR/Hawaii Pacific Engineers, and one of the grant program coordinators. "The awards program provides great examples of state and local entities that have successfully implemented QBS procedures."
