| ACEC Presents Infrastructure Priorities To Obama Transition Team
ACEC President Dave Raymond met with President-elect Barack Obama's senior transition team at the Department of Transportation last week to offer the Council's recommendations on an infrastructure-based economic stimulus package and related highway and airport funding issues.
Raymond, who was part of a select group invited by the transition team, urged substantial infrastructure funding not only in a near-term stimulus bill, but also for reauthorization of the surface transportation bill (which expires in 2009), and in various other transportation measures.
Raymond also urged the new Administration to give states the flexibility to use stimulus funding for both ready-to-go construction projects as well as engineering for the next wave of priorities, ensuring that economic growth is sustained. In addition, he underscored the need for stimulus funding to be invested in the private sector and not be used to expand the size of government.
Click here for a summary of ACEC's transportation recommendations.
"An expanded public works effort will give the economy a quick boost at a time when we truly need it," said Raymond. "Equally important, these investments will pay dividends for years to come, ensuring that we have the infrastructure to support a growing and competitive 21st century economy." |

| States Make Final ACEC/PAC Fundraising Push To Meet 2008 Goals
Wayne Horlacher, ACEC/PAC Champion in Nevada says, "We'll make it." |
ACEC State Member Organizations are kicking their fundraising drives into high gear this month as they race to meet their respective goals before the end of 2008.
Fifteen states have already met their fundraising goals, and many more are closing in.
"We're making calls and pushing hard," said Wayne Horlacher, ACEC/PAC Champion in Nevada. "Most people we reach out to understand the importance of what we're trying to do, which is encouraging. I think we'll make it by December 31."
ACEC/New York has reached 99 percent of its goal and should cross the finish line next week.
Newly-elected and re-elected House and Senate members are calling on ACEC in greater numbers for financial support before the end of the year. Many have debt from the 2008 campaign, while others are already preparing for the 2010 election cycle.
"Even though Election Day has passed, the political process never ends," said ACEC Chairman John Hennessy. "Given the opportunities, and real uncertainty that we face in 2009, it's critical that we build up our political war chest. That's why we need every state organization focused on meeting their PAC goals."
State organizations are asked to forward all ACEC/PAC contributions to the ACEC office in Washington, D.C. by the morning of Thursday, December 31, 2008.
To check on the status of your state's ACEC/PAC fundraising effort, click here or on the interactive map below.
