| Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood To Address ACEC Annual Convention

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will address ACEC members at the Annual Convention's 100th Anniversary Luncheon on Monday, April 27. He follows noted CNN political analyst David Gergen, who will address Convention attendees during the Opening General Session earlier that day.
LaHood leads the 55,000-member federal agency that shapes the nation's surface, air and maritime transportation programs. He will discuss the impact of stimulus funding on transportation, current transportation challenges, and strategies to meet future transportation needs.
The Annual Convention begins April 26 with Centennial Soiree Opening Reception and Dinner featuring the Capitol Steps comedy troupe. Convention attendees will also benefit from special education sessions addressing today's challenging business climate, and new federal contracting opportunities.

Jerome Ruddins, vice president of ACEC Member Firm RBF Consulting in Irvine, Calif., introduced President Barack Obama at a town hall meeting last week in Costa Mesa, Calif.
RBF Consulting is providing engineering services for an Orange County highway expansion project that the Obama Administration recognized for its job creation.
"The President told me that he was really counting on the engineers and construction managers to help with the stimulus package. He said it was an awesome responsibility, and I told him that we wouldn't let him down," says Ruddins.
In his introduction, Ruddins emphasized the importance of infrastructure funding to Orange County and the nation. The President talked about both short-term fixes for the economy and strategies to create long-term growth.
"It was amazing, absolutely amazing," says Ruddins. "He is a very engaging person."

The ACEC Committee of Fellows is now accepting nominations for the 2009 ACEC Community Service Awards.
The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact on the quality of life in their communities. Candidates for this award are nominated by Member Organizations and must have at least five years experience as a principal or manager in an ACEC Member Firm.
