House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va) said in a Washington Post editorial this week that repeal of the 3 percent withholding mandate will be a prority of his in the fall legislative agenda.
Cantor said the provision is a bad idea because it would effectively increase taxes on firms that work with government clients.
The ACEC-led industry coalition advocating repeal now has 222 cosponsors in the House and 29 in the Senate. |
ACEC "Action Alert" on Highway Bill Gains Widespread Member Response

More than 1,400 ACEC Member Firms flooded Congressional offices last week with letters and emails pressing for continued funding and passage of a new long-term transportation bill.
Federal highway and transit programs face a shutdown on September 30, unless Congress passes an extension.
Without the extension, federal payments for highway and transit projects will cease and the gas tax and other fees supporting the Highway Trust Fund will lapse. “We urge our members to keep the pressure on,” says ACEC President Dave Raymond.
