ACEC Calls for Secretary Clinton to Permit the Keystone XL Pipeline

ACEC is urging Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to issue a "presidential permit" to allow the Keystone XL pipeline to cross from Canada into the United States.

The pipeline will deliver petroleum from Canadian oil sands to refineries in the Midwest and Texas and create more than 20,000 engineering, construction, and manufacturing jobs.

In a letter to the Secretary, ACEC President Dave Raymond noted that the project will strengthen the nation's energy security. Click here to view a copy of the letter.


Senate Committee Holds Line on Infrastructure Funding for 2012

The Senate Appropriations Committee maintained current transportation funding levels in its FY 2012 bill, in sharp contrast to the House draft, which includes drastic cuts opposed by ACEC.

The Senate bill includes $41.1 billion for highways, $10.3 billion for transit, $3.5 billion for airports, $1.5 billion for Amtrak and $550 million for TIGER multimodal discretionary grants.

ACEC continues to champion federal infrastructure investments at the highest possible funding levels.


Auditor Says ACEC is "Among the Best Managed Associations"

ACEC's auditing firm Larson Allen has commended the Council's financial and operational performance following the 2011 audit.

"ACEC's capable professional staff, well-designed policies and procedures, and effective planning place it among the best managed associations in our experience," wrote J. Andrew Smith, principal of Larson Allen. "In this challenging economic climate, ACEC has preserved its financial health, established a solid foundation for continued progress, and had another successful year.

ACEC/Massachusetts Surpasses ACEC/PAC Goal for 3rd Straight Year

ACEC/Massachusetts became the latest state organization to achieve its 2011 ACEC/PAC fundraising goal, joining Wisconsin, Hawaii, Indiana, South Carolina, South Dakota and Washington.

"Our members understand the connection between PAC support and better representation in Congress," said Robin Greenleaf of Architectural Engineers, Inc. in Boston, who is leading the fundraising effort with Dennis Coffey of HNTB in Chelmsford. "Our goal was to get this done now, when candidates need our support most."

The Hoover Dam Bypass features a 1,900-foot-long arched concrete bridge that rises more than 900 feet above the Colorado River.

The design team for the new Hoover Dam Bypass, winner of the 2011 EEA Grand Conceptor Award, will lead a behind-the-scenes technical tour of this landmark achievement during the ACEC Fall Conference in Las Vegas, October 19-22.
