As engineering firms evolve from capital asset-designers for clients into creators of shared intellectual property (planning, creation, and operation) of the built environment, they, their clients and the public face increasing threats from the use and misuse of new business technologies.

Many consulting engineers struggle with the moral, legal, and financial implications of technology. They may overlook or misconstrue their obligations – as professionals and as businesses – to protect their clients and the public. Increasingly, consulting engineers face:

  • Client and public exposure issues, and possible damages, through unintended violations of information security requirements
  • Project endangerment and firm operations issues because of damage to or ransoming of firm information by cyber criminals
  • Invasion of the privacy issues for clients or the public through the improper use of photography, remote sensing, and drones
  • The challenge of keeping pace with the latest and greatest emerging technologies

Join Yvonne Castillo and Frank Musica to examine not only the latest contractual and common law issues affecting your practice of engineering with relation to new technologies, but also emerging technology trends with the potential to transform your practice sooner than you may think.
