News stories about sexual assault and harassment have dominated the media for months now. Numerous incidents have centered on hostile workplace conditions and illegal or inappropriate behavior by high profile individuals.
It's not surprising that companies, including engineering firms, are evaluating their risks, reviewing their policies prohibiting sexual harassment, and implementing training programs to sensitize employees to the issues, and prevent sexual harassment.
Join our panel of speakers to learn how to create a professional and respectful work environment and a culture that discourages and eliminates sexual harassment. You'll identify the elements of an effective policy prohibiting sexual harassment, examine options for training, and explore various hypothetical situations to gauge your own awareness.
About the speakers:
Beverly Tompkins joined SGH in 2003. As Corporate Counsel, Beverly provides legal support, advice and recommendations at all levels of the organization. She also oversees SGH’s Risk Management Department. Beverly ensures the firm’s regulatory compliance with respect to our licensed professionals’ national and international practices. She also assists the Human Relations Director with sexual harassment training.
Joanne Dekker has conducted sexual harassment training for several organizations, including a hotel chain. She is the author of the book, Employee's Guide to Discrimination and Termination (A Real Life Legal Guide). She also represents clients in employment law cases.
Kent Holland counsels numerous engineering firms on matters concerning risk management, and has participated in sexual harassment training of firms for whom he provides risk management services. He will offer the perspective of the male trainee for this program.
