Welcome to the resource page for ACEC’s “Citizen Lobbyists” participating in visits to Capitol Hill as part of ACEC’s 2022 Annual Convention and Legislative Summit. The focus of our lobbying effort will be implementation of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), pushing back against a proposed federal gas tax holiday, passage of the Water Resources Development Act, and fixing problems with PPP loans.
Please contact the Executive Director of your state Member Organization (M.O.), who will be scheduling meetings with your state’s Members of Congress on Tuesday, May 24th and Wednesday, May 25th.
This year, the Senate is in session the week of the ACEC Annual Convention but the House has a committee work week. Some offices will be available for in-person meetings -- with lawmakers or staff or both -- while others will insist on virtual meetings. Both approaches can be effective, and our suggestion is to work with your M.O. staff to submit the meeting requests now and work with individual offices on their preferred approach to meetings.
At this time, visitor access to the congressional office buildings is very limited. Current security protocols require that a congressional staff member escort visitors to and from meetings, and you will not be able to enter the buildings without an appointment. On the day of your meeting, plan to arrive early to give extra time to meet your staff escort before going through security screening.
A meeting request form and contact information for House and Senate offices have been sent to the M.O.s for organizing congressional meetings. ACEC members should feel free to make use of these resources if they are making their own meeting requests. Members are encouraged to e-mail meeting request letters, and then follow up with a phone call to the scheduler. Please be aware that House and Senate schedulers are frequently unable to commit to specific meeting dates and times until a week or two prior to the event. If you would like ACEC National staff to accompany you to your in-person or virtual meetings, please send the meeting information to Forest Putnam.
Fact Sheets will be provided on site to members in packets to leave with congressional offices, and will be posted to this page shortly.
We will hold a special webinar on Monday, May 9 at 1:30 PM ET for Convention participants to preview the issues we will focus on – register here. A more detailed briefing on the Council’s key lobbying issues will be provided at the Annual Convention on the afternoon of May 23rd.
Please use our ACEC online congressional directory to find office locations and key staff information for all Members of Congress.
We hope you will thank your Member of Congress and their staff for the meetings via Twitter by tweeting your pictures to @ACEC_National and using the hashtag #ACECAnnual2022.
