ACEC 2017 Annual Conference

Capitol Hill Visits

Welcome to the resource page for ACEC’s “Citizen Lobbyists” participating in visits to Capitol Hill as part of ACEC’s 2018 Annual Convention and Legislative Summit.  The focus of our lobbying effort will be passage of major infrastructure legislation, one that balances incentives for private investment and P3s with robust direct investment in core federal programs that support critical transportation, water/wastewater, and other infrastructure needs.  This legislation will also feature regulatory reforms to streamline the delivery of a broad spectrum of infrastructure – from traditional transportation and water projects to pipelines, grid projects, communications and rural broadband.

We encourage you to schedule your visits to Capitol Hill on Tuesday, April 17th or Wednesday, April 18th.

As a first step, ACEC members are encouraged to contact the Executive Director of their respective state organization to alert them to your interest in participating with the lobbying program.  Typically the meeting requests are coordinated through the state organizations, or through an ACEC member in the state who has been designated as the State Coordinator.  ACEC works through our state organizations to facilitate meeting requests with House and Senate offices because such requests are typically better received when they come from constituents or home state entities.

The links below include a number of resources that have been sent to the state organizations for organizing congressional meetings, including a sample meeting request letter, contact information for House and Senate offices, and other informational resources.  ACEC members should feel free to make use of these resources if they are making their own meeting requests.  Members are encouraged to e-mail meeting request letters, and then follow-up soon afterwards with a phone call to the scheduler.  Wherever possible, submit the meeting request through an ACEC member who has a close relationship with their House or Senate member.  Also, be patient -- House and Senate schedulers are frequently unable to commit to specific meeting dates and times until a week or two prior to the event.  When scheduling meetings, please note that construction in the House Office Buildings may block certain hallways and tunnels between the buildings, and lengthen security lines.  We advise you to leave extra time to get to your meetings.  As you begin to secure specific meetings, please forward that information to Brenden Carol at bcarol@acec.org.
