SUMMARY:Delivering on the Promise of Smarter Buildings While Spending Less
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, October 3\, 2023\, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM (Eastern) \nNot available for the live online class? Pre-order the on-demand recording! \n\nYou can design\, build\, and operate smarter facilities without spending more money. In fact\, you’ll likely end up spending less. \nSmart building solutions offer owners a tremendous amount of possibility–the use of fewer building materials\, better performance and functionality\, lower cost to operate and maintain\, better security\, more and better amenities\, greater occupant comfort\, and\, for workplaces\, a boost in team productivity. \nBut few owners are aware of all this potential. As a result\, even fewer are able to capitalize on the full intelligence afforded by “smarter” buildings. The root of the problem is often too much focus on the technology–not enough on the goals behind its use. The results? Owners and facility executives install technology solutions with little thought to integration and interoperability–factors that determine just how smart building technology can be. \nThe Telecommunications Industry Association director\, smart buildings program\, Marta Soncondi and Drew Deatherage\, a smart buildings expert and security and telecommunications industry veteran\, will walk participants through a framework that will help them understand and make informed decisions about smart technology solutions for reaching their goals–be they about lowering the costs of building and operating schools\, improving student outcomes\, bolstering security\, and\, in so doing\, raising student and staff well-being. Participants will also learn an integrated approach\, one that involves getting stakeholders involved early on\, that helps ensure goals are met and the right experience is created even with tight budgets. \nTakeaways: \n\nA framework and process participants can use to define\, discover\, and deliver\nHow smarter buildings deliver more value to owners\, design teams\, and tenants–at a lower cost\nThe most common obstacles to smart buildings–and how to overcome them\nWhere to start and how\n\nPresenters: Drew Deatherage\, Vice President of Sales and Marketing\, CRUX and Marta Soncodi\, Director of the Smart Buildings Program\, The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)

SUMMARY:It’s Clear as WOTUS: SCOTUS\, Sackett and the “Relatively Permanent” Amended Final Rule from EPA/USACE
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, September 26\, 2023\, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM (Eastern) \nNot available for the live class? Pre-order the on-demand recording! \n\nIn January 2023\, EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) published a final rule revising the definition of “waters of the United States” (aka WOTUS) under the Clean Water Act. In May 2023\, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Sackett v EPA which invalidated certain aspects of the WOTUS definition in the January final rule. On August 29\, 2023\, EPA and USACE amended the 2023 definition of WOTUS. So the world make sense now\, again\, right? Well\, not perfectly (yet?). This presentation/discussion will walk through the current state of WOTUS\, the changes\, the unknowns\, and pontifications of some ideas for the coming months and year. \nPresenter: Kevin Ramberg\, Principal\, aci consulting

SUMMARY:A&E Deep Risk Drivers - Overlooked Strategies to Prevent E&O Risk and Grow Profits
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 21\, 2023\, 1:30 – 3:00 PM (Eastern) \nNot available for the live online class? Pre-order the On-demand Recording! \n\nA&E firms can reduce E&O risk through key practices such as communication\, client selection\, project team capabilities\, contract management and others. To execute on these risk management practices\, firms rely on their busy and overwhelmed people which is where things can fall apart. Underperforming in these areas can leave firms exposed to profit-eroding professional liability claims. \nThis leads to another set risks\, which are business operational risks. As a firm owner you want to grow your business\, retain good people and have success. However\, your team and managers may struggle with burnout\, negativity\, stress or relationships. This can affect everything from staffing to performance and even profitability\, which leaves owners feeling concerned and frustrated. \nRecent neuroscience highlights the importance of personal empowerment practices and the ability those practices have to set individuals and businesses up for success by creating a strong\, positive work culture. Personal empowerment training is designed to strengthen\, build and empower people to show up with greater confidence\, motivation\, clarity and purpose towards everything they do. This improves employee approach to work interaction; helping firms to grow\, improve profitability and reduce E&O risk. \nDuring this webinar\, you will learn basic empowerment strategies that will help you influence staffing\, improve culture\, reduce risk and increase performance and profitability within your business. \nThe three most important learning objectives are to help people: \n\nRecognize and utilize their ability to embrace change and handle problems\nImprove their mindset to get unstuck and move forward\nBuild resilience\, work through difficulty and achieve results.\n\nCome learn about these essential strategies how they improve E&O and operational risks and rewards for firms. \nPresenter: Jeff Hirst\, Empowered Professional Training and Matthew P. This webinar will fill the void and provide you with the business management highlights that every firm needs to apply to achieve their full potential. \nIn this session\, we will learn the fundamentals of all successful AE firms and provide the basis for making well-grounded business decisions. We will explore the importance of data within an engineering firm and demonstrate how careful collection and interpretation can lead your firm into more exciting and profitable territory. \nJoin us for an engaging\, live webinar presented by Steven Burns\, FAIA\, Founder of The Well-Designed Firm as he shares lessons learned over 35 years working with over 1\,300 engineering firms. \nIn this webinar\, you will learn how to: \n\nIdentify why a “business-thinking” mindset is of utmost importance for service professionals\nExplain best practices for implementing a metrics-oriented leadership system\nSummarize how data-based performance management drives smarter business decisions\nAnalyze how profitability drives growth rather than being merely a result\nReframe your firm as a platform that enables you to achieve your business and personal goals\n\n*The recording will be added to the class materials the following day. \nPresenter: Steve Burns\, FAIA\, Founder\, The Well-Designed Firm \nAbout BQE: BQE CORE is the award-winning firm management software\, created by engineers for engineers\, that project-based firms trust to run their operations for better project outcomes\, and more profitable futures.
