ACEC Hosts FIDIC North America in Chicago

This week, ACEC was joined by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies, Canada and the National Chamber of Consulting Companies, Mexico to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the A/E industry in North America.

Areas of discussion included tackling the ongoing workforce challenges facing the industry, including workforce challenges and related immigration issues affecting the ability of firms to attract and keep engineers from abroad.  Association leaders also discussed the need to inspire and attract the next generation of engineers, trade between the countries, the importance of promoting the use of Qualifications-Based Selection (QBS) in North America and throughout the world, and many other issues.

Earlier today, Vice President Kamala Harris held the final event of the White House’s “Investing in America” tour, announcing nearly $300 million in grant funding for repairing and updating nine bridges across the country.  The event was held steps away from the Memorial Bridge connecting DC to Arlington County, VA and ACEC members were there to support the call for infrastructure investment.

Earlier today, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Gov. Kathy Hochul were in the Albany Capital Region to announce $21 million in funding for safety and reliability improvements to the Castleton-on-Hudson bridge, where the New York State Thruway crosses the Hudson River, connecting Albany and Schenectady counties.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has proposed banning noncompete agreements in most cases and rescinding existing agreements. ACEC submitted comments seeking improvements in the rule to balance the concerns of employers and employees.

The WEX Center promotes fundamental and applied research at the water-energy nexus in partnership with industry. Its research focuses on all dimensions of power/energy use and efficiency in the water processing sector, including extraction, treatment, conveyance, reclamation, and reuse.
