Report Finds that $232 Billion in Needed Public Transit Investment Would Yield $928 Billion in Economic Activity

A report by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has identified at least $232 billion in critical public transportation investments. APTA estimates that making that investment over ten years would result in $928 billion in economic activity over a 20-year period.

37 States Have Introduced 185 Bills in 2019 to Boost Transportation Funding

States continue to take the lead in transportation investment, with 37 states introducing 185 bills in the first two months of the year to boost transportation funding, according to a report by the Transportation Investment Advocacy Center. In 2018, 40 states considered 214 transportation measures, with 19 states passing 27 bills.

The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing & Urban Development approved an annual funding bill that increases investment levels for most federal transportation infrastructure programs for the coming fiscal year.

The bill fulfills FAST Act funding levels for highway programs at $46.4 billion from the Highway Trust Fund and adds an additional $2.7 billion from the General Fund for surface transportation block grants, railway-highway crossing safety improvement, and bridge repairs.
