ACEC New York Develops Safety Guidance To Help Restart Design & Construction

To identify the best and safest strategies for workers, whether in the office or on a job site, ACEC New York turned to the strong volunteer leadership from member firms to develop a set of guidelines that have been delivered to Governor Cuomo and his team.

The guidance document created by ACEC New York’s Safety Committee is based on best practices identified by firms, as well as the federal government (CDC, OSHA), and state and local governments (NY Governor’s Office, NYC Mayor’s Office, and public entities).

“We can utilize the talent and knowledge within our industry to help get the economy back on track safely,” said ACEC New York Chair Thomas Cascino, who formed the ad hoc committee in response to concerns. “Engineers have an obligation to life, health and safety and this is just one small part. I can’t thank the committee members enough for how quickly and thoroughly they addressed this.” 

Committee members were John Grady, Ravi Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C.; Quaiser Hashmi, ATANE Design and Construction Consultants; David Kliwinski, STV Group; Douglas Glorie, STV Group; Greg Luger, AECOM ; Doug Maas, Cosentini Associates, Inc.; Ryan Stecher, Jaros, Baum & Bolles; Michael Vardaro, Zetlin & De Chiara LLP; and Carl Sall, WSP USA

 “This isn’t an just ACEC member benefit; it’s an industry benefit,” said Cascino. “All of our COVID-19 and related documents are available to anyone without any passwords or unnecessary restrictions.”
