Appropriations Bill Holds Line on EPA, Superfund Funding

In legislation signed by President Trump today, the Environmental Protection Agency will receive nearly $8.1 billion for fiscal 2019, close to what was enacted for the agency in fiscal 2018.

The funding, part of an appropriations bill negotiated between the House and the Senate this week to avert another government shutdown, is about $2 billion more than the Administration requested.

The legislation includes $1.16 billion for the Superfund program, approximately the same funding as last year.

The EPA is also encouraged in the legislation to complete guidance on states’ ability to block Clean Water Act permits under Section 401 of the law and to establish procedures to ensure states are monitoring utilities’ compliance with lead in drinking water standards.
