- ACEC New Jersey Raises $18,000 Through Online Food Drive

Unable to hold its annual can sculpture competition and food drive, ACEC New Jersey held an online food drive competition among its member firms and it was a huge success. Member firms raised more than $18,000—the equivalent of 54,000 meals. Michael Baker International took home first place, raising $4,632, followed by HNTB ($3,295) and Malick & Scherer ($3,122).

In his testimony before the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials on Tuesday, ACEC Illinois Executive Director Kevin Artl urged the panel to fund a robust freight and passenger rail network, but he also put in plugs for three ACEC advocacy priorities: Contracting out, QBS, and lump sum contracts.

ACEC Illinois Executive Director Kevin Artl (right) stands with U.S. Representative Dan Lipinski (D-IL), who chairs the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials. Artl testified before the subcommittee today urging increased federal investment in the CREATE program in Northern Illinois. A first-of-its-kind partnership among the U.S. DOT, State of Illinois, Cook County, City of Chicago, Metra, Amtrak, and the nation's freight railroads, CREATE seeks to reduce train and auto delays throughout the Chicago area by building dozens of new roadway and rail overpasses and underpasses, upgrading tracks, switches, and signal systems, and improving grade crossings throughout the region.
