Contracting for Professional Services Part 3: Problematic Words, Phrases, Clauses

When the interpretation of contract language can turn on a single word or punctuation mark, you need to be ready to recognize and sidestep every pitfall and trap.

On Wednesday March 13, in the final installment of an exclusive three-part series focusing on the bottom line of engineering professional services contracts, Tom Harkin of Willis Towers Watson and Robert Stanton of Willis will examine typical problems encountered in client-drafted contracts, discuss the impact of such problematic wording, and identify changes and methods for working around bad language.

In Contracting for Professional Services Part 3: Problematic Words, Phrases, Clauses, the presenters will use actual wording from problematic contracts to identify language that creates exposures or coverage issues for engineers; discuss a “go/no-go” approach to contract language; examine the impact of bad language and identify alternate language; and address what to do with a bad contract when the client will not make changes.
