Corps of Engineers to Evaluate Four Potential P3 Projects

In its effort to reduce its nearly $100 billion backlog of authorized but unfunded projects, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will consider four major civil-works projects for its new public-private partnership (P3) pilot program.

The four projects—levee raising and storm protection from Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay in Texas; deepening the Brownsville Ship Channel in Texas; environmental restoration of the Los Angeles River; and a new second lock in Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan—will be “further developed and validated” according to the Corps.

Final decisions on whether to move the projects forward as P3s will take from six to 24 months.
