Disaster Relief Package Provides Billions for Infrastructure

On June 6, President Trump signed into law a $19.1 billion disaster-relief package, more than half of which will fund infrastructure and related work in regions hit by hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters.

Infrastructure related funding includes:

  • $3.2 billion to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to repair and build floor and hurricane-protection projects;
  • $2.7 billion to the Department of Defense to repair and reconstruct military bases hit by hurricanes in Florida and North Carolina and damaged by flooding in Nebraska;
  • $1.65 billion to the Federal Highway Administration to reimburse states and territories for post-storm repairs;
  • $2.4 billion to the Housing and Urban Development Department for community development disaster-relief block grants; and
  • $349 million to the Environmental Protection Agency to improve water system resiliency.

In addition, the legislation extends the National Flood Insurance Program to September 30, 2019.
