Jessica O. Matthews Offers Convention Attendees an Innovative Vision for Infrastructure

What do a soccer ball, a jump rope, a speed bump and even a sidewalk have in common?

They all are now conduits of energy production or data collection—and all the result of the vision of Jessica O. Matthews, founder and CEO of Uncharted Power, an award-winning power and data infrastructure technology company that develops infrastructure operating systems for communities worldwide.

In her address to an ACEC Virtual Annual Convention audience Tuesday, Matthews explained how she discovered a revolutionary new way to plan and manage infrastructure. “Our goal is to create a new way the built environment is envisioned and executed to maximize making things truly better,” she said.

At the age of 22, she founded Uncharted Power, in response to what she found were global interoperability issues regarding the multi-faceted aspects of infrastructure planning.

“We found one of the most important aspects of infrastructure planning is a true understanding and articulation of the problem,” Matthews said.

Using a patented suite of solutions, Uncharted Power builds, owns, and operates infrastructure to provide power and data services throughout the world that are clean, safe and low cost. The company focuses on smart city infrastructure planning, and now has 12 patented or patent-pending systems.

By addressing those interoperability issues, her company creates systems that reduce infrastructure costs by 50 percent and time by 75 percent.

“I like to think that our company seeks to address the gap between the past and the future of infrastructure planning.”
