Joint Statement from ACEC National, ACEC Virginia, and ACEC Metropolitan Washington on the Virginia Beach Shooting

The national office of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), ACEC Virginia, and ACEC Metropolitan Washington released the following joint statement on the Virginia Beach shooting:

“Words cannot express the sadness we feel over the senseless loss of life in the aftermath of the shooting in Virginia Beach. The ACEC community mourns the victims, several of whom were engineers doing their jobs to serve their fellow residents by providing the essential services that make the City of Virginia Beach such a wonderful place to call home.  We grieve with the families who lost loved ones in the incident and the community as it recovers.  Our deepest gratitude goes to the police, first responders, and co-workers who rushed into the line of fire and saved lives.

The engineering profession focuses on making the world a better place for everyone.  Friday’s incident runs counter to everything our members hold dear.  The City of Virginia Beach has set up a website with links and information detailing how you can help the community heal.  ACEC has contributed to the United Way of South Hampton Roads, and we encourage our members to donate what they can.”
