National Academies Report Looks at Improving Engineering Education

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine have published a report exploring the characteristics and career choices of engineering graduates.

The Educational and Career Pathways of Engineers looks into engineering graduates’ educational and career pathways and related decision making, the forces that influence their decisions, and the implications for the industry.

The report addresses two key questions: How well is the US engineering education-workforce system preparing and using engineers? What adaptations are needed to ensure that this system can respond effectively and expediently to current and future needs?

The report authors make several recommendations for improving the education-to-workforce pathway, including promoting diversity in the industry, improving STEM education in K-12 schools, and increasing cooperation with both the private and public sectors
