States Report $1.2 Billion in Infrastructure Damage from 2019 Storms

Storms and floods in the first half of 2019 have caused more than $1.2 billion in damage to public infrastructure in 24 states, according to the Associated Press (AP).
 
Based on preliminary assessments submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the total includes damage to roads and bridges, utilities, water control facilities, public buildings and equipment, and parks.

AP expects the tally to rise because some states haven’t completed their assessments or may submit higher totals.

The AP estimate does not include damage to levees eligible for aid from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which estimates repairs to the levees in the Missouri River basin will cost $1 billion.
