Engineering Excellence Awards

Each year, the American Council of Engineering
Companies (ACEC) sponsors a national Engineering
Excellence Awards (EEA) program to recognize
engineering projects which epitomize quality, innovation, value, and client satisfaction. A requirement for entry into ACEC's national competition is participation in a Member Organization's engineering excellence program. Since 1988, ACEC of Maine has sponsored such a program. The annual ACEC of Maine Engineering Excellence Awards program precedes the national program by several months to afford award winners ample time to prepare their submittals to the
ACEC national program.

Rick McCarthy Scholarship

ACEC National and the National Association of Engineering Council Executives have created this scholarship in honor of Rick McCarthy, a good friend and leader in the engineering industry. The Rick McCarthy Scholarship will provide a mininmum of $1,500 to each of three Maine resident students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or in an accredited land-surveying program at University of Maine.

Rick became the Lobbyist for ACEC Maine in 2011 and served to protect and further the interests of our member firms. Rick was instrumental in assuring the defeat of several legislative proposals for a sales tax on professional services; continuously helped to assure funding of public infrastructure in state budgeting and bonds; helped to gain funding for the University of Maine, College of Engineering; and most recently galvanized multiple entities to assure defeat of efforts to dilute professional licensure of engineers in Maine. Rick was also close with the staff of Maine’s Congressional Delegates, helping to assure our voice was heard and appreciated in Washington DC.

Rick assumed the Executive Director role in 2016, while continuing to serve as ACEC of Maine’s Lobbyist. Under Rick’s leadership as Executive Director, ACEC of Maine and its member firms, continued to grow and thrive.
