Mission

To advance ACEC-NM’s mission of championing engineers in private practice — fostering innovation, quality design, community service, and financial success in a thriving business environment — by serving as the liaison between the engineering community and New Mexico’s surface water and flood control authorities. The committee advocates for sound water management policies, fosters collaboration with regulatory agencies, and promotes engineering solutions that protect public health, safety, and welfare.

Purpose

  • Serve as ACEC-NM’s primary forum for engagement with surface water and flood control authorities.
  • Advocate for policies that support responsible flood control, water conservation, and infrastructure investment.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with surface water agencies to ensure engineers’ voices are heard in water-related decision making.
  • Provide ACEC-NM members with insight into regulatory priorities, technical challenges, and emerging opportunities in water management.
  • Facilitate dialogue and collaboration between engineers, policymakers, and regulatory authorities.

Objectives

  1. Agency Engagement – Maintain active relationships with AMAFCA, SSCAFCA, flood control authorities, MRGCD, OSE, DSB, and ISC.
  2. Policy Advocacy – Represent ACEC-NM’s positions on flood control, dam safety, water rights, and infrastructure investment.
  3. Information Sharing – Keep ACEC-NM members informed of agency initiatives, funding opportunities, and regulatory changes.
  4. Collaboration – Create opportunities for joint workshops, forums, and technical discussions with participating agencies.
