WHO WE ARE
Since 1990, the Small Firm Council (SFC) has represented and advanced the business interests within ACEC – as well as with United States Federal Agencies and the United States Congress of ACEC’s small firms. SFC provides an indispensable forum that focuses on the unique needs and challenges facing small firms.
From ensuring that small firms remain an active and respected element of ACEC, to working with the US Congress to expand US Federal Government contracting opportunities for small firms, SFC is committed to advancing small firm issues.
WHAT WE DO
SFC is the resource for small firms in the engineering industry. SFC identifies and advocates for expanded contracting opportunities with federal, state, and local agencies, putting forth initiatives that directly affect and support small firms.
- Identify and influence important federal, state and local initiatives that directly affect small firms
- Work with health, professional liability, and business insurance industries to improve access and affordability for small firms

- Advocacy to protect your small firm’s interests
The Small Firm Council works with Congressional staff on both the House and Senate Small Business Committees, and testifies before these committees on key initiatives that impact the efficiency and success of small business operations. SFC works with the Small Business Administration and procurement officials of other federal agencies to promote and protect small business contracting opportunities within the federal and state governments.
- Education Programs
SFC sponsors educational seminars that help member firms with business issues including: finances, human resources, ownership transition, information technology, marketing, and other topics of concern to small firms. These seminars are typically conducted at ACEC national meetings and the popular SFC winter meeting. SFC members receive discounted registration fees for all SFC sponsored events and seminars.
- Networking Opportunities
SFC events provide abundant opportunity for networking with peers. SFC holds an annual winter meeting, as well as receptions, seminars, and roundtable discussions that enable members to share information and ideas.

SFC works hard to keep members informed about key small business initiatives through ACEC’s Last Word, and Engineering, Inc. magazine. SFC also keeps members informed about SFC events, recent legislative developments, education sessions and programs through the member email listserv.
