Dodge Momentum Index Climbs in January
The Dodge Momentum Index rose 4.7 percent in January to 157.7, up from the revised December reading of 150.6.
The Index, which measures the first report for nonresidential building projects in planning, is considered to be a leading economic indicator, typically leading construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a year.
Both components that make up the Index rose in January: Institutional building climbed 5.0 percent; and commercial building was up 4.6 percent.
According to Dodge, the January increase brings the Index back to its November level and is consistent with the monthly average for the second half of 2018.
