The Senate voted today to approve the House-passed Continuing Resolution (CR) for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2025, sending the bill to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
The measure extends most appropriations accounts at 2024 levels, with some adjustments, through September 30 and avoids a pending government shutdown. Additional details on the bill including summaries of key infrastructure programs are available in the update ACEC circulated earlier this week.
Senate Democrats had initially expressed opposition to the package, preferring to pass a shorter-term extension and continue to negotiate on the 2025 spending bills. However, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) ultimately concluded that was unlikely and that a government shutdown would be a worse result. Congressional Democrats continue to express concern about the impact of federal agency staff reductions and program cuts under the Trump Administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) activities.
