Voters Approve Transportation Infrastructure Measures
With the share of federal infrastructure funding continuing to shrink, voters at both the state and local levels approved measures to fund infrastructure improvements.
Here are a few:
- In Arkansas, voters passed a measure to make permanent a half-cent sales tax that is allocated for transportation infrastructure.
- Austin voters approved two related measures. Proposition A raised the property tax to fund transit improvements, and Proposition B allows the city to borrow up to $460 million for infrastructure projects.
- In both Seattle, Wash. and Downs, Ill., residents voted to increase the sales tax, with the proceeds to fund transportation needs. And in Middletown, Ohio, they supported an income tax increase for street and road repairs.
- Bend, Ore. Voters approved a $190 million bond measure to fund transportation improvements.
