Washington, D.C. – Today, the American Council of Engineering Companies announced that Fernando “Nando” Gomez, Jr., has joined the organization as Vice President for Strategic Initiatives. In this role, Nando will work to expand ACEC’s relationships with Democrats on Capitol Hill and bolster the group’s legislative and political programs on energy and other critical market sectors.

“Nando joining the advocacy team is an important step in expanding ACEC’s reach into policy areas that are increasingly important to America’s engineering industry,” said ACEC President and CEO Linda Bauer Darr. “Between private investment and IIJA funding, the energy market is growing exponentially. Nando’s addition will help ACEC stay ahead of the curve to help our member firms navigate new opportunities.”

Gomez is a seasoned government relations professional with a wealth of experience in critical sectors such as energy, Department of Defense (DOD) agencies, and international markets. His experience working with policymakers, particularly on the Democrat side of the aisle, is an asset in furthering ACEC’s bipartisan advocacy agenda.

“Nando is the perfect addition to the ACEC team. He brings extensive experience running complex advocacy campaigns and has proven success translating legislative priorities into political action,” said ACEC Board Chair and Senior Vice President of Gannet Fleming Art Barrett. “This is a critical time in Washington for investments in infrastructure and energy, and Nando will help amplify our voice to the decisionmakers that matter.”

Nando joins ACEC from the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers, where he served as Senior Director for Government Relations. In his role, he developed and managed successful advocacy strategies and built relationships with Democrats in Congress. He succeeded in securing the passage of significant chemical safety legislation and engaging the government of Mexico in opening energy markets to U.S. producers.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join the team at ACEC and help achieve the policy objectives of our membership,” Nando said. “I am extremely excited to serve America’s engineering companies and leverage my experience to bring value to the table for ACEC members.”

Prior to his work at the energy association, Nando managed the global public policy portfolio for a $5 billion business group within Honeywell International. He secured numerous multi-million-dollar contracts for the company and led advocacy initiatives to open new markets in Central and South America. He also assisted in growing Honeywell’s PAC to nearly $9 million through grassroots programs and new fundraising events.

A seasoned Capitol Hill staffer, Nando served in multiple roles, including as Chief of Staff for Congressman Solomon Ortiz (D-TX) and Legislative Director for Congressman Martin Frost (D-TX). A native of Texas, Nando received his BA in Government at the University of Texas in Austin.

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) is the business association of the nation’s engineering industry. Founded in 1909, ACEC is a national federation of 51 state and regional organizations representing more than 5,500 engineering firms and 600,000+ engineers, surveyors, architects, and other specialists nationwide. ACEC member firms drive the design of America’s infrastructure and the built environment.
