Washington, DC — Linda Bauer Darr, President and CEO of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the business voice of America’s engineering industry, released the following statement in response to President Biden’s State of the Union address to Congress:

“We support President Biden’s vision of an America resurgent as a manufacturing powerhouse, citing the CHIPS Act, 46,000 projects supported by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and policies promoting advanced manufacturing and clean energy.  Each of these examples has a common thread – they involve the talent, creativity, and dedication of America’s engineering industry.

New economic development cannot take root without the infrastructure to support it.  New technologies cannot reach market without research and development to test them. At each step of the way, America’s engineers are involved in keeping our Union strong.

At the same time, we need to keep a tax code in place that allows employers to invest in their people, in technology, and in innovation.  That means a stable corporate tax rate and immediate Senate action to restore the deductibility of R&D investments that are so critical to America’s competitiveness and success.”
