In this fast-paced session, American Rail Engineers EVP Steven Youschak and the firm’s Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Team will share their experiences in using drones to inspect major bridges. Using the KNWA Ohio River Bridge and the Pat Tillman/Hoover DamBypass Bridge as case studies, the ARE team will walk you through the planning, deployment, onsite setup, and inspection process. You’ll also examine current limitations and potential future technology advancements that assist in this process.

Carbon Reduction: The New Design Parameter

Engineers have a new design parameter: reducing atmospheric emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

In this session, James D’Aloisio, managing partner of Klepper, Hahn, will explore the rationale for mitigation efforts from a scientific, political, and regulatory perspective and consider the role of the engineering community in addressing this challenge. He will also quantify the magnitude of emissions from engineering-related human activities including manufacturing, transportation, construction, and energy usage, and review various types of mitigation strategies.
