DOT Announces Nearly $1 Billion in Discretionary Grants to States

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced this week that the Biden Administration will invest nearly $1 billion in American infrastructure through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) discretionary grants program. The funding has been awarded to 90 projects in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.

The program selection criteria encompassed safety, environmental sustainability, quality of life, economic competitiveness, state of good repair, innovation, and partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders. Within these criteria, the grants reflect the Department’s priorities for creating good-paying jobs, improving safety, applying transformative technology, and explicitly addressing climate change and advancing racial equity.

The states receiving the largest grant distributions include:

Pennsylvania: $60,607,018
Washington: $58,106,000
California: $56,507,075
Alaska: $52,075,000
Missouri: $50,476,255
