Engineering Employment Continues to Climb; National Unemployment Rate Falls to 3.5 Percent

Employment in the A/E industry rose for the twelfth consecutive month in September, reaching an estimated 1,524,200. The industry continues to set monthly records for the highest employment level.

As a result, finding and hiring qualified professionals remains one of the biggest challenges for engineering firms.

The national unemployment rate fell to 3.5 percent, the lowest rate since 1969. According to the Department of Labor, employment in health care and in professional and business services were the primary drivers behind the decline.
