ACEC Maine Executive Director Rick McCarthy Passes Away

Rick McCarthy, who had served as executive director of ACEC Maine since 2011, died on July 9. He was 56 years old.

During his nine years leading the M.O., McCarthy had many significant achievements, including defeating several legislative proposals for a sales tax on professional services, winning funding for the University of Maine’s College of Engineering, and halting efforts to dilute professional licensure of engineers in Maine.

In honor of McCarthy, ACEC and the National Association of Engineering Council Executives (NAECE) will award a $2,000 scholarship in his name to an engineering student in Maine.

He is survived by his wife Michele McCarthy; his sons Sean and Noah McCarthy; his parents Philip and Carole McCarthy; and his brother Greg McCarthy.
