ACEC/Rhode Island Wins Elimination of Separate OWTS Licensing Requirement

ACEC/Rhode Island scored a big win in the 2019 session of the state General Assembly with the passage of a bill that exempts professional engineers from the long-standing requirement to maintain a separate license and to enroll in continuing education courses to design On-Site Wastewater Disposal Systems.

“ACEC/RI testified in both the House and the Senate that the need for the Department of Environmental Management to license established, proficient, and well-trained PEs to perform these basic engineering services does not exist,” said ACEC/RI Executive Director Marcel Valois. “This regulatory hurdle offered little value but imposed significant time and cost on the state’s engineering firms.”
