ACEC Statement on the Passage of H.R.2

The American Council of Engineering Companies – the voice of the business of engineering – released the following statement on passage of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act:

“ACEC strongly supports the investments authorized in H.R. 2 for surface transportation, airports, drinking water and wastewater systems, ports, inland waterways, broadband deployment, and other critical infrastructure programs. The emphasis in the bill on strengthening resilience to the impacts of climate change is critical and consistent with the work America’s engineering industry is doing right now for clients in the built environment,” said ACEC President and CEO Linda Bauer Darr.

“While the bill has problematic provisions, the level of investment spanning many sectors of the economy deserves support in the House. We hope that both sides will come together going forward to build consensus on an infrastructure package the country needs and deserves,” Darr added.

“Action on infrastructure is absolutely the right thing to do for this country at absolutely the right time,” added ACEC Board Chair Charles Gozdziewski, Chairman Emeritus of Hardesty and Hanover in New York City. “Infrastructure investment will drive our recovery and America’s engineering firms are ready to design the transportation networks necessary to meet the demands of the ‘new normal.’”
