First International BIM Standards Published

First International BIM Standards Published

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has released the first international Building Information Modeling (BIM) standards.

The new standards, which are based on existing British standards, provide a framework for the industry to work together across projects and national borders.

“Taking this to an international level not only means more effective collaboration on global projects,” said Jons Sjogren, chair of the ISO technical subcommittee that developed the standards, “but allows designers and contractors working on all kinds of building works to have clearer and more efficient information management.”

Currently the new standards include two parts: “Concepts and principles” and “Delivery phase of the assets.” ISO plans to create additional standards on the operational phase of assets and dealing with BIM security, digital environments, and asset management.
