Massachusetts Tops Study of Nation's Most Innovative States

Massachusetts is the most innovative state in the country, according to a new study by WalletHub.

The study compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions—"Human Capital" and "Innovation Environment"—using 24 separate metrics, such as Share of STEM Professionals, Projected STEM-Job Demand by 2020, Share of Technology Companies, and Venture Capital Funding Per Capita.

The top ten states are: Massachusestts, Washington, District of Columbia, Maryland, Colorado, California, Virginia, Utah, Delaware, and Oregon.

The District of Columbia has the highest share of STEM professionals, followed by Maryland, Washingotn, Massachusetts, Colorado, and Virginia.

Washington, D.C. also leads the way in the highest project STEM-job demand by 2020, followed by Virginia, Washington, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

Colorado has the highest share of STEM professionals over the age of 25, followed by Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Utah.
