Sargent & Lundy and EIA Improve Modeling for Annual Energy Outlook
Sargent & Lundy worked with the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)on a study to improve the modeling tor the Annual Energy Outlook.
The EIA undertook the study after the retirement of several coal power plants resulted in a decline in U.S. coal-fired electric generating capacity from a peak of nearly 318 gigawatts (GW) in 2011 to 257 GW in 2017
The study results show a direct relationship between plant retirements and a plant’s operating and maintenance costs. According to the report, a larger share of plants with higher operating and maintenance costs retired by 2018 than those with relatively low operating and maintenance costs.
