ACEC’s EBI Survey: Engineering CEO Confidence Up, But Wary of Economic Headwinds
Member Firm leader confidence rose in the first quarter of 2019, according to the ACEC Engineering Business Index (EBI) survey released today, but they see storm clouds on the horizon.
The EBI score rose 3.8 points to 62.2 in the Q1 2019 survey, a 6.4 percent increase over the 58.5 score in Q4 2018 survey, which was the lowest in the five-year history of the EBI. Any score above 50 signals positive market sentiments.
Firm leaders expressed optimism about current market conditions and the coming year but were concerned about profitability and backlogs over the next few years.
“Markets are currently strong,” said one firm leader, “but we see signs of an economic pullback coming.”
