Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill Passes Senate

Washington, DC – ACEC released the following statement upon Senate passage of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:

“The nation’s engineering industry applauds the United States Senate for passing a historic, generational investment in America’s infrastructure,” said ACEC President and CEO Linda Bauer Darr.

“This bill matters. Reliable infrastructure is the keystone of our economy, and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act makes the long-term investments necessary to keep America on a path to prosperity. The bipartisan bill will unleash the ingenuity and talent of America’s engineering industry to design smart, connected, and resilient infrastructure. Americans will feel these improvements every day, resulting in a better quality of life, a cleaner environment, new job opportunities, and untold potential for economic development in their communities.”

“The vote is a big step forward in getting an infrastructure bill on the President’s desk. It is now up to the House to approve this historic investment in America’s future. We urge Speaker Pelosi, Chairman DeFazio, and House leaders to act with speed in taking up the Senate bill. The opportunity to deliver the infrastructure we deserve is finally within reach,” Darr concluded.

“The Senate infrastructure bill will significantly benefit the engineering industry. Not only will it create 82,000 new good-paying engineering jobs, but for every new job, two more are created in roles that benefit or support engineering services,” added ACEC Board Chair Robin Greenleaf.

“We also estimate the bill will increase industry activity by 6% over six years adding $62 billion in wages and $75 billion to GDP, she noted.
