CASE 12: An Agreement Between Structural Engineer of Record (SER) And Contractor For Transfer Of Digital Data (Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Or Building Information Model (BIM)) Files
Fabricators and suppliers are requesting CAD or BIM files from the designer. By providing CAD or BIM files, changes may be made to the files by others that would not be distinguishable without a critical review. CASE #12 is used so that both the Structural Engineer of Record and recipient of the CAD or BIM files understand the limitations and extent to which the files may be used. This is an agreement to allow for the transfer of CAD or BIM files to others.
