It is the position of the Council of Professional Surveyors (COPS) that professional surveyors should actively participate in professional development and/or continuing education. Entry into the practice of land surveying requires licensure; this licensure determines competency upon entry to the profession. Continued education and professional development promote the health, safety, and welfare of the public by assuring licensees remain competent within their profession.
The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) categorizes PDH activity under the following content areas:
- Technical, Health, (STEM) & Safety
- Business Practices
- Ethics
- Jurisdiction-specific content
as outlined within NCEES’ Model Rules and Continuing Professional Competency Guidelines.
