What does management need to know and understand to ensure an effective human resources function for the engineering consulting community?  This seminar will answer this question no matter what size your firm is, you will learn what the various aspects of a human resources operation are and how firms can create programs, processes and procedures that meet the needs of the workforce while continuing to focus on the bottom line.  Seminar topics included are:

  • HR Basics and HR Audit – A to Z (from recruitment and selection to performance management and everything in between)
  • Accounting, Office Manager and now HR – what happens when HR is part of your job?   What Non-HR professionals need to know when it comes to HR
  • Understanding the various HR Employment Laws (federal, state and local regulations) and how they impact management and business
  • Creating a culture that matches the firm’s vision
  • Employee Engagement – what are some best practices in the engineering consulting industry

This seminar is for any employee in a small firm tasked with making human resources decisions, such as: owners, principals, HR professionals, CEOs, CFOs.

About the Speaker:

Barbara Irwin, Principal and Founder of HR Advisors Group, is an accomplished human resources leader with over 25 years of experience in the field of human resources management and development. HR Advisors Group, LLC is a management consulting firm, focusing on human resources, training, development and organizational design; HR Advisors Group was established in 2003 providing customized strategic solutions to HR and training needs in various industries including engineering, technology, non-profit and the federal and municipal public sector markets.

Prior to forming her own company, Ms. Irwin held various senior level HR positions in the engineering consulting industry including a Vice President with Montgomery Watson Harza (MWH) and Director of Human Resources with Dewberry.  Other organizations where Ms. Irwin has held senior level positions include, Lockheed Martin and Alcon Laboratories Pharmaceutical Corporation, where she was an HR Manager for the International Operations for the organization.

As an experienced human resources consultant, Ms. Irwin has a solid background in organizational growth and development, workforce development and planning, training and career planning, diversity initiatives, cultural change and reorganization, executive coaching, HR metrics, recruitment and retention and global HR initiatives.
